The Dam

Dams were essential to early industry in our country and the Batsto Dam was no exception. It created a lake to allow ore boats to move bog iron  ,from local rivers and streams to the Iron Furnace.  It generated the power for the Sawmill to produce lumber from the plentiful wood in the local forests. The dam has been rebuilt many times through the years, with the most recent project being completed in 2001.
